Sonny,

Most days I don't have time to get bored and look for new entertainment. When I am alone, I rarely turn the TV on and when I am burdened, my solice is in God's presence. There are few things in this world that I look forward to. There are several things that I enjoy. One of those is praying for others and knowing in my heart that God is moving and working on their behalf.

I pray this "blog" that you have started will challenge all of us to depend on God and less on the world.

The whole idea behind this series is to once again alert us to the deceptive tactics of our enemy in this war for souls. We seem to work so hard to have fun and find pleasure in this world in all the wrong places. Look into the life story of Oscar Wilde to get a glimpse at how destructive the pursuit of pleasure (entertainment) really is.

There is peace and contentment in the worship of God. And there is joy. We can find all the entertainment we need in His presence. There has been no better time in my life than in the sweet presence of the Holy Spirit.

But how many of us look to Him instead of worldly pleasure when we become “bored”?

Love you

I think in many ways we have lost our wonder of God; how truly awe-some he is. Deep within our hearts is a longing for reckless abandon in worship, which in a sense is the ultimate means of "play." Yet, we oftentimes substitute wonder of God for amusement with worldly things. It's like a child (or me!) who is hungry quenching that hunger with junk food. Subsequently, the child may feel "full"; however, the food doesn't benefit the child's health.

Similar to your take on the passivity of the church as it relates to spiritual warfare, I think passivity too often characterizes our (my) hanging out with God (and the faith family). Like Pastor noted (in reference to Paul) - "Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment."
