Once again, your posts point us to the love of God. Tremendous.
Dee and I are still at the AMS conference. Today, she met folks from the defense department who were trying to recruit graduating mathematicians (interesting blog topic concerning non-violence…lol). Nonetheless, today has been a time of reading and reflection for me as I continue to press through this writing project ( :blogs: ).
Today I read a thesis by a brother concerning two aspects of the love of God: giving and receiving. That yes God sent forth his Son for the redemption of humankind; and such sending entailed rejection, suffering, death and resurrection. However, the same God who sent the Son, makes room to embrace (receive) the very ones who perpetrated the rejection, suffering and death. Meaning, God’s love is evidenced in his sending Christ and also in his receiving (broken) people by his Spirit. Likewise, our love for others entails both giving and receiving. We give ourselves in care and compassion, and receive others through forgiveness and mercy.
Your thoughts of Jesus’ weeping as a result of those around not believing are intriguing. I think back to when I first entered the Kingdom and was praying for my family to be saved. My mom, who had a rather traumatic church experience at a young age (and avoided religious institutions since then), did not want to hear about church or “end times stuff,” and my dad delved into alcohol all the more. My heart was broken not simply for their rejection of my testimony but mainly for their refusal of the only means for their redemption, faith in God’s Son…
Today, I rejoice that my mom and dad have surrendered their lives to Jesus Christ, thanking the Lord for his gracious intervention in their lives (my dad is 6 years sober this December). Reading your post, I can only imagine how Jesus’ heart broke (knowing the purpose of his life) as people refused (and still refuse) to believe in his love and embrace of those whose lives are fractured by sin. Here he is, knowing what the onlookers need (to be rescued from the alienation and devastation of sin) and yet limited in the sense that he cannot force them to trust him. To do so would undermine true “trust.” He invites, he calls, he beckons, he weeps, he woos, he pleads… yet, he will not force, coerce or make me trust him. Again, only imagining the depth of God’s love, I wonder what parent would not weep, beckon, plead and pray for her or his child to embrace such love, such redemption, such forgiveness, such healing, such salvation…
It reminds me of Luke 11.13:
“If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” (ESV)
May we all embrace God’s love for us (seen in Jesus) and recklessly abandon all notions that we do not need him.
Blessings, bro. Keep up the good work of letting us know of God’s great, life-changing love.
Wow. Great post Sonny. Not much left to be said. All I can say is “yes I do care that He weeps for me”. I am sure He has wept many, many times for me. And I do believe that he will continue to do so and that He will never leave me.
Love you,
Connie
All I can say is “Amen” and thank you Sonny for this wonderful reminder of Jesus’s love and patience for us. We should try to be this patient with others and show this much love to them. And when it is hard to we need to go to Jesus and depend on Him to show us how. I praise and thank Jesus everyday for loving me this much and forgiving me for my mistakes. What a wonderful exsample He is of caring for others.
Praise Jesus Holy Name. Amen. Sabrina
Thanks all,
His love is amazing. One of the reasons that we can praise Him is for the fact that He is not like us. God had so many opportunities to give up on us, (mankind and each of us), but He didn’t. Even if our very actions show Him we find it hard to believe.
Praise God, He is merciful and patient.
Love you all
Sonny,
I have always felt that Jesus was weeping because the people did not believe He was able! They kept reminding Him that if He had been there, He could have healed the sickness; Never once do they entertain the thought that Jesus can do more than heal the sick…….He can raise the dead!!! :slain:
I am reminded of the pain I feel when our kids make choices in direct conflict with the things they were taught…..
I want to be aware of my actions and I desire to make decisions that will not cause Him pain!
Love Tammy
