Today is the day we find out if the world ends.  That dreaded election that has most everyone upset thinking that there is actually no good choice.  Be that as it may, I choose to ignore it myself.  I will be checking in here and watching a TV show and reading my bible. Whatever happens, I will still serve the Lord.

Saying that, I expect less response today for this Town Hall discussion because most will be glued to their favorite news channel, experiencing all the ups and downs that make them feel alive and involved.  If only Jesus made us feel that way?

This may be a little fun and a little easy today.  But for those who want to participate, I hope it will be interesting.

Let’s discuss alien life.  Some people are adamant in their belief that there is life on some distant planet.  Others disagree vehemently.  What do you think?

Do you believe that there is intelligent life out there in the vastness of the universe or did God only place life here?

If you do believe in alien life, how do you reconcile it with the gospel?

And finally, just because of what day it is, which candidate would you want to be POTUS in the case of a visitation from outer space?

And a thanks again to Pink Floyd for the title.

Okay.  Have at it.

Love you all.

I don’t see anything specific in the Bible about whether or not there is life on other planets. I think the evidence indicates there is not life on other planets. The whole creation groans because of Adam’s sin. It would seem odd to punish other life for what Adam did.
There are, however, other beings that the Bible does talk about. Demons. If someone sees something or someone that is unexplained my first thought would be to see if it might be connected to something the Bible says is real. One book I read made the most sense of the issue. The author investigated many of the stories of sightings and alien abductions. Many people from all walks of life have seen lights or something in the sky that appeared to be real and did not have a good physical explanation. That does not mean they were seeing aliens from another planet. It just means that there is some reason to believe that there is something in existence that we do not understand. What really interested me about the book was the investigation of abductions. One common denominator of every abduction was that the ones who were involved were also involved in some sort of occult activity such as Ouiji boards, fortune tellers, contacting the dead, etc. Another common denominator was that the leaders or captains of the ships almost all told some version of “We have come to save you from yourselves.” One thing that got my attention was that some (or maybe all) of the captains of the ships would give their names. The names many times turned out to be the names of ancient gods from ancient cultures. The abductees were not experts in the knowledge of ancient cultures and so would not be expected to know these names.
Who knows if this might be connected to some of the end time deception. Many people will accept anything but God. They know evolution is not true but it is the only straw they can grasp to try to prove God didn’t make everything. Francis Crick, the co-discoverer of DNA for which he was awarded a Nobel Prize had this to say. The DNA molecule is so complex that it could not possibly have come about by chance. You would think his next statement would be, “Therefore I know there is a God.” But, no, that is not what he said. He said he believed aliens came to Earth and seeded the planet. This does not even begin to answer the question of where did life come from because now we have to ask where did the aliens come from. Their DNA must have been pretty complex too if they can fly around the universe seeding planets.
Smart men will go to any lengths to deny the existence of God. They accuse Christians of believing in fairy tales when we believe the written recorded history of the Bible. But the Bible is full of proof of its reliability. Archaeologists use the Bible in their search of ancient cities. Many fulfilled prophecies in the Bible support its authorship by God. (Who else can predict the future.) Yet these smart people who ridicule me for believing the Bible claim to believe aliens are flying around seeding planets. I think I will stick with my belief in God.

Sonny…….Aliens?

I bet you had a ball sitting there writing this one and listening to Pink Floyd in your head all night.

Well this should get people’s minds off of the “McBama” day. I have no idea if God placed life forms on other planets, nor do I really care. I’m just glad He put life on this planet to give me the opportunity to have relationships with Him, my children, my grandchildren, my parents, my husband and friends like you. What a blessing.

As for which candidate I would rather be the POTUS in case of an outer space visitation….I really don’t care. I think neither one would know what to do any more than the current POTUS knew what to do when we got that “visitation” from the enemy on the other side of this planet!

This post really makes me thankful that I am not of this world (universe).

Peace and Love to all,
Connie

P.S. Is there anybody out there? Just nod if you can hear me ;)

I do not think there is life out there nor do I care. What does it have to do with me? If there is something out there it is not bothering us at this moment so why bother with it? We have enough problems here we need to be addressing not ones we don’t even know is true or not.

The Bible does not address aliens. At least not that I have read.

As for president I want Bill Pullman from Independence Day. He’s already beat them once. LOL.

Why care?

If they are out there, do we not have a mandate to make disciples of them? :)

I’m not sure about life on other planets…but I met many aliens down here disguised as Earthmen. Anyone who disagrees with me is an Out-of-Space Person…

I’m sorry…Was this a serious question?

If there is life elsewhere, God will take care of it. Not to worry…Why should we think that they would visit us as “Enemies”?

Peace be unto you. Thank you for laughter.

Okay. You got us on this one. Well, if there is anybody out there, I just personally want to say…..

Claudia,

Welcome.

I did forget the smiley. Notice that it is there now.

I have had this discussion with a couple of people that do take it pretty seriously.

I’m sorry Sonny. Forgive me for laughing. I know that some people are dead serious about this. And maybe they’re right. Allow me to be Thomas. Unless I see an Alien face to face, I’m not going to worry about it/him/she…If it happens, I’ll ask God to help me. It’s a tough world (even without aliens). God never fails me when I cry to Him.

My first visit here, coming from Heath Countryman. Interesting blog. Today’s post was very entertaining. Thank you.

Thank you Claudia.

Please look over some of the other stuff and give me your opinions. As you will see I am usually a lot more serious myself. Some might say too serious.

But I have been wanting to express my thoughts ever since I got saved and the economy has opened up some time for me. So I thought I would try this blog.

Hope to hear from you again.

Okay.

Either this did not interest very many people or the election kept everyone glued to their favorite propaganda news channel.

I actually did this one to keep it light. But I believe it to be a valid question.

I was going to write my own beliefs but I don’t have to. Justin did it for me. And very well, I might add. The only thing I would add is that I strongly doubt the existence of extraterrestrials based simply on the sacrifice of Christ. Justin said it too, I just wanted to strongly say it.

So at least in this instance, we don’t have to worry about our new presidents lack of experience in anything but delivering good lines.

Here is food for thought… What if there is another planet where paradise was never lost. Perhaps that is why space is so vast, so that we will never be able to show up and corrupt their Eden…
All speculation, of course.

I do not believe aliens to be real. I think the people who do believe in them saw something but could not explain what it was, so they made up something. The Bible does not talk about aliens. I have never read anything in the Bible about life on other planets or about God creating life besides us.

I have not glanced at the election stuff since 6 pm and that was when Kirk did. Instead me and my family ate dinner then watched a movie together. I knew it would bother me so I decided not to watch. The question will not be decided until tomorrow anyway. Maybe even later than that if the numbers are close like the Bush/Gore race.

So, I am here, Sonny. LOL. :jump:

Heath,

Welcome.

I have actually held to the belief that Jesus had to become man to affect the salvation of man, and that by sacrifice, so I pretty much did not see how He could affect the salvation of other intelligent life without becoming them also. This necessarily implies dying more than once.

Then one of the men in my class asked me, why I assumed that they fell and had need of a sacrifice.

That is about the only way I see it as being possible. And if that’s the case, then they must be pretty Godly. So I say come on and bring us some of their Godly wisdom.

Love you all

Hey to you all. Sorry I have been kind of quiet but for the last two weeks I’ve been letting Chris do the writing. As for the election, I watched the returns between playing with the kids and watching “The Bear” with Chris. Let’s just say that it’s over now and let’s hope that God will have influence over the new governing administration. Although, seeing all the people partying and celebrating on TV it doesn’t give me much hope…

Anyway, alien life, huh? Were you watching the Sci Fi channel???

You know, to me, if God has (and he does) the ability to create life, create man/woman, send his only Son to die for us here on Earth and be omnipresent and other omni’s I can’t think of because it’s two in the morning and I can’t sleep, why can’t he be in charge of other planets? The whole galaxy? The Universe? It was a good point by Heath that what if Eden existed on other planets because sin wasn’t given into. Maybe they got it right and we didn’t.

The argument is made here on Earth by people that when something is missing in a person’s life they tend to go look for it somewhere else. What if these aliens left their lives on their planet because sin (or there form of it) had become too much and they are looking for salvation elsewhere? What if salvation wasn’t an option and they are looking for it? What if God hasn’t reached everywhere yet and these aliens are looking for what we have here? I guess what I’m trying to say is if God is able to do anything and everything, it doesn’t seem so far fetched that he created life on other planets too. Just as we are all different but still serve God maybe he has already presented himself in the image of these other lifeforms and we just don’t know it yet.

To highlight my inner geek, look at Star Wars (But not the prequels because they really, really are just cheap imitations of the real three): The prophecy is that a young man (Luke) will save the Universe from the forces of evil (The Dark Side). He follows a form of religion (The Force) that along with this young man saves the Universe because others followed him and his teachings. Plus he had disciples – sort of in Return of the Jedi – and in the end the one sent to save us (Anakin) dies for others so that peace could be brought to the galaxy. (If anyone else has seen this in Star Wars, let me know because I think I may have seen the movies a few too many hundred times.)

Anyway, I think the reason people have such a hard time thinking of other life is that we have this preconceived notion that aliens have to be a different color, able to suck someone’s brains out, use mental telepathy for world domination, and/or all of the above. Everyone in Star Wars looked like us and we are able to accept that because it’s familiar. We believe in a God who sent his only Son to die for us. He blessed a Virgin with a child (no argument Sonny) to set all of these events in motion, gave us the Bible (our Manual) so that we will know what to do and what will happen and this is all supposed to just be for us??? Seems sort of selfish to me and insulting to God’s ability to create life, here and anywhere he pleases.

But since it’s now three a.m. I’ll just be grateful that God in with us now. Let’s hope that more people here on Earth stop acting like alien life forms and accept God into their lives. If they don’t and keep partying/acting like they do, Earth may become more of a planet that sustains alien life than it is now.

Good night/morning and God Bless. :lovetransforms:

Everyone in Star Wars did not look just like us. Sorry.

The only sci fi show that I can remember that only had humans spread throughout space was Firefly.

And I thought maybe Dune. But we can’t forget those sandworms. They, in a sence were intelligent life also.

But all of that was just fiction.

Love you Leigh

I think I would have to be a little cautious (actually a whole lot skeptical) about accepting someone or something that claimed to be from another planet, dimension, etc. since the only other life form we know about are demons and we know they can appear as an angel of light and we know they are real.

I just read a column supporting OSAS (once saved always saved) and something occurred to me that I haven’t thought of before. One of the main arguments, probably THE main argument, in support of OSAS is that there is absolutely nothing you can do to obtain or keep salvation. Salvation is a gift of God and we can do nothing to obtain it or keep it. If we don’t believe that, we are trusting in ourselves instead of trusting in Christ.
But even this statement says we must do something our self. We must trust in Christ. If there were truly absolutely nothing we could do, the only path to salvation would be if Jesus saved us regardless of our trust in him. God would have to put the “trust” in us and so we aren’t really trusting in him, just exercising the trust he placed. To hold this view you must believe that for those who aren’t saved, the reason they aren’t saved is that God has not placed that trust in them. The logical conclusion if this is true is that there is no free will.
That means I was bound to write this paragraph.
That also means that people like me who argue that we do indeed have free will are pre-ordained by God to so argue.
What do you think?
I have to go now.
Really.

Well it’s all over but the shouting/crying now. I would like to just add one quote:

I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
1 Timothy 2:1-2 (NIV)

Love and Peace to all,
