Back On Mission

Posted by: Sonny   in Spiritual Warfare

I want to just say it is time to refocus on the tasks we seem to have been ignoring.  Disciple making.  Kingdom advancement.  Taking out strongholds.  Being ambassadors.

Whatever you might think about the current state of the world, this country, the economy, unemployment, the election results, etc., we have a mission.  That mission is about things that are eternal and as such have eternal consequences.  For you, for me, and especially for those we should be reaching.

Dan has some great thoughts on his blog as usual.  I have borrowed some quotes and suggest you go here and read the whole post.

“The only “Change We Can Believe In” is Jesus Christ.”

“…a nation right with God only comes about through the transformation of human lives by Jesus Christ.”

“If we truly want change, God-honoring change, then it begins in our own hearts…”

These thoughts line up with my own and I have been trying to say some of these same things.  Thanks Dan for the cohesive display of some valuable truth.

Love you all

I have never read Dan’s blog until today. It was awesome. We as Christians have focused so much lately on what this person or that person believes that we have totally forgotten to search our own hearts for what we believe.

Most of you know that I teach Sunday School for nine, ten and eleven year olds. Yesterday the main topics in class were the race of the new president-elect. My black students were all excited, and the white students were disappointed. We had the discussion about how we are all created equal in the eyes of God no matter what the color of our skin is. But, the main topic was of all things…abortion :!:

During prayer requests, which by the way, my class takes very seriously, a child brought up the fact that our new president-elect believed in killing babies and even letting babies that were born alive during an abortion die while lying on a table. I was caught completely off guard. I asked if everyone knew what an abortion was and “yes” was the unanimous answer. I tried to explain on their level, but that is very difficult to do without being graphic. So I explained to them about some of the new president-elect’s ties with various religions and how they differ from ours.

The only thing I knew to do was to show how the Bible speaks against murder, and that life begins at conception, etc. Their homework for the week is: while they are brushing their teeth every morning they are to pray that President-Elect Obama gets saved and accepts Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of his life. And that he is not a “bad person”, but just needs Jesus in his life. And when that happens, Jesus will show him what is right.

I have to be very honest here in saying that I have always thought myself to be a non-prejudiced person. But when the election results came in last Tuesday night, I felt a little “afraid”. I felt that now “White America” would now become the minority and “Black America” was gonna retaliate. For a split second, I no longer felt that we were all in this together. It was a rude awakening of just what the black population has felt for hundreds of years.

Dan Edelen was right in his blog. If we want to change America, it has to begin in our own hearts…..How I live for and serve Jesus Christ and how I portray that to others should be my main goal.

Love and Peace to all,
Connie

It is very sad to hear that children know or have heard about what an abortion is. Wow.

And the quotes are 100% true. There really isn’t much more to elaborate on.

Dan at Cerulean Sanctum is a very thoughtful, insightful writer. I am still occasionly going to his archives and reading his older stuff.

You should check in there when you can.

After you’ve read mine. :p

I agree with you 100% about our mission. If I start to get upset or worried about what our country, and my family, might be facing in the near future I remind myself that there are others that do not have the comfort and joy of God in their life and that is who I need to be worried about not me. I pray everyday that myself and my church will be able to help others come to know God and for Him to give us the strength to fight everything that might try to stop us from being able to do that. I know that no matter what happens that God is and will be there to take care of me. Others need to be able to know that too.
