What Tammy said :!:

Can't add anything much. You guys said it all. BTW, "overeating" does not apply to any of the self-control stuff (I wish). :)

John,

Context. The statement about tattoos is based on what those people described would say so yes the statement stands but it is not my statement.

Love you

great blog Sonny. Did you mean to say that a tatoo will send you to hell at the end of the seventh paragraph? I feel that the people who put limits on themselves such as no t.v. are possibly just trying to deal with their besetting sin. Mabey when the watch t.v. they become overwhelmed with lust OR get so obsorbed in it that they neglect to spend time with God. In their case avoiding lust or studying and praying may be their fruit. An alcaholic cant just control his desire he must stay away from his besetting sin. Also I believe God will put limits on me that he may not put on you if thats what I need to grow into what he wants. Each persons path is unique and designed for them by God and the paths they have chosen to go down. Douglas i agree with you about people being born gay. Since thats not the topic of this blog i'll not go into that alot( mabey Sonny can open up that discussion soon) i dont think a lifetime of celibacy is called for though. Thanks Doug for bringing up the subject of besetting sin i'm always interested in what you have to say on that subject.

Thanks to both of you

Doug, you remind me of another example. That is the fact that their are some of us loving, merciful saints that actually believe that a homosexual is sinning whether they act on the attraction or not. The attraction itself is sin in their mind. If temptation is sin and sends you down south, deep, deep south, then we all better watch out

But to me a celibate homosexual is a prime example of self-control.

But then again I have some non-traditional views on a lot of this.

Love you all

AWESOME!!

I don't have anything major to add......but in reading this blog today it reminded me of a conversation I had with my parents about a year and a half ago. We were discussing sin and to be specific homosexuality. I don't know how we got on the subject, but I told them my views on some of the specifics about it had changed. Particularly the fact of being born a homosexual. I had always heard it preached that "God don't make no mistakes" yada yada yada. And I am by no means stating God makes mistakes. I do believe people can be born homosexual.

Pull back and think about it for a second. We all have had people in our lives at one point or another that just didn't fit. You have an effemenate male or tom-boy (butchy) female that we went to school with or whatever. When a child is in the womb a womans hormones are running like a BMW down the audobon. To say they are crazy out of wack is an understatement. While upbringing does play a major role on influence on a childs life......you still have the acutal chemical and genetic makeup that plays a major influence on who/what that person is and is to become.

I said all that to say this. The author of Hebrews said it best talking about the sin that so easily besets us. One of the best messages I ever heard dealt with this. "That" sin is different for everybody. To an alcoholic it is the next drink. To a drug addict it is the next fix. To a power monger it is control of whatever situation they are faced with. To a homosexual it is the attraction to the same sex. In each of these situations these people can not help who they are from a chemical and physical make up. They are who they are and they are who God made them to be. Yet in each case the person has a choice to control that sinful desire they are faced with or to give into it. We all have a besetting sin. And it is all about self control as to whether or not you give into it and satisfy your flesh or you overcome it and glorify God. I feel to overcome it takes a steady diet of prayer and supplication with God and the grace he provides us.

Love ya Bro!!
