tues-town-hall-18We all pray.  I dare say even atheists do at times.  There is even an old saying about there being no atheists in foxholes.  The reason behind this is that when the going gets really, really tough even the tough need someone to turn to.

The Church of God denomination is focusing on prayer as a method of effecting the change we need in our lives and for the nation we live in.  This focus has caused me to pray and to reflect on prayer more than I sometimes do.

This Tuesday discussion is in line with this focus.  I have three questions to ask or one really, with three aspects to it.  If God was to promise to answer only these three prayers what would you ask for?

What one thing would you have Him change about our nation or society?

What one thing would you have Him change about your own life or family?

What one thing would you have Him change about yourself?

The tendency might be to say that you would ask for all people to love each other, and for you to see all of your kids saved, and to make yourself serve and be totally Christlike.  But we should all want these things.  I want to hear what you think would impact the world, your life or yourself.  I want to hear if you just need some personal changes or things.  I want honesty and I want to know what is important to you.

(By the way, what you say has an impact on me.  After writing about criticism last week, my Town Hall graphic was criticized and made fun of, so I am experimenting with some others.)

Love you all

I am not one to be prejudiced of skin color. Never have been. God is the only one who can change our hearts about that, and we definitely are a nation that needs our hearts to be changed. I do however have a problem with people who expect something for nothing at the expense of my dollar; no matter what color they are. I pray that our nation would stop being a “gimme” nation and enabling people to do just that. Instead of “spreading the wealth”, we should be a nation that requires a person to “at least” look for a means to support themselves and their families and not depend on me to do it for them. Don’t get me wrong; I believe in feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, etc. If you know me at all, you will know that. But at least our so called government should require a person to at least try before enabling them. Let the people of this nation find pride in themselves again. Teach a man to fish……..

Don’t know if this would impact the world or not, but it could be life changing for those affected.

What one thing would you have Him change about your own life or family?
Sorry, but the only thing I can think of IS that all my kids and grandkids be saved. I love my family just the way it is and I praise God for giving me such a family. We are very close and spend lots of time together, bare each other’s burdens, and love each other. I love my life.

What one thing would you have Him change about yourself?
How embarassing. My main issue with myself is my self-control when it comes to my eating habits and my weight. It affects my self confidence, my travel, my health, and in some cases my service to God. I pray for Him to give me courage to quit trying to do this alone and completely turn it over to Him.

BTW, I like your new Town Hall graphic :wnk:

What would I have God change about our nation? I would have those who are servants in our society — teachers, ministers, nurses, etc. be paid in accordance with their value to society, rather than them being paid little while entertainers are paid exorbitant sums.

What would I have God change about my family? I would move them all to Birmingham so that I could see them every day — I miss my family.

What would I have God change about me? I would ask God to make me not need to sleep. I wish I had more time in my days. If I could stay awake and not be tired, I could get so much more done. But, I enjoy sleeping, so I would like it if I could sleep if I wanted. (I know, it’s a little silly, but right now, it is what comes to my mind.)

Blessings,

Debra

Thanks to you both and Dee, this is what I wanted. Real desires and not just what some might think I want to hear. I know most of you love God and I know most of you love your family and are trying hard to love people. But what do we really think would work to change us and those around us. It might be something as simple as the ability to go without sleep.

Shannon and I are already pretty far down that road already.

It looks like this topic is not that interesting so again, thanks to you both.

What would I have God change about our nation?

The way we treat each other depending on color, class, beliefs, etc.
The fact that the Christians are the ones mocked and disregarded.

What would I have God change about my family? :SUN:

No brainer, my childrens’ residence and the relationships or lack there of… My grandchildren to be raised in church and visit like grand babies should!!!
My parents health, so they could see all of their grandkids come to a real relationship with God!!

What would I have God change in me?  :luvu:

I would like to be able to give like I want to give, be sweeter, keep my mouth closed more and
handle stress. Of course, if my kids were not where they are, my stress level may not be as great! Also, be able to witness to everyone I meet!!!

Connie, there is no “wrongest one” when giving your opinion!!!
Sonny, I like it when you make us dig deep to see how we really feel about something!! :hrts:

No ones wrong.

Just thought there might be more concrete changes that people wish for that would lead to discussion about whether they would actually do anything.

Not many seem to be responding at all though.

-I tend to agree with Connie on this question. I wish more peolpe would work for a living. I think a little more effort or some effort ar all would be much more benefical. If we are handed everything why try?

- I would have a closer relationship with my parents growing up. Maybe listen a little more. I would also go to college, and enter another career. One that didn’t require me to travel like I do now.

-I would like for patience to come much more easily. I would like a little more restraint giving my criticizm. I am not sure it always has a positive effect.
