Tuesday Town Hall 16…Bearing Fruit?

tues-townhall As followers of Christ and workers in His kingdom we all have a job to do. A lot of us are more behind the scenes but what we do is as vital to the Kingdom as those in the forefront of ministries. There are so many “superstars” in the body of Christ in this country that everyone knows of at least one.

We have also all heard of at least one that has fallen due to some sin issue or other. Many have been ministering for long periods of time while secretly living lives that very likely grieved the Holy Spirit within them. There was even some evidence of fruit while many of them were leading these double lives.

My question today has to do with this fruit.

If a person is blatantly, but secretly, living a double life, such as preaching while having an affair, or evangelizing while partying and drinking, or beating their wife while pastoring a church, etc., are they really able to do the work of the Kingdom? Are they bearing any good fruit?

Basically, do you think a person can live knowingly in sin and the Holy Spirit work through them?

In a word. Yes.

We as people are gullible and deceived constantly. This is why telemarketers have jobs as well as most tv evangelists. While people live these double lives, I feel God in his infinite wisdom does what we have seen him do all through time. He takes lemons and makes lemonade.

One of the greatest sermons I ever heard was from a minister that is now in jail. Was his message any less effective. NO!! It still impacts my life to this day and I quote excerpts from it often.

Another gentleman that is a christian scientist that debates creationism verses evolution is now in jail on tax evasion charges. Does that make any of his arguments for God less effective? No. I still learned information that is very valuable and helped entrench my faith even more.

Ministers are human and humans will fail. People always get on their high horse about these kinds of things when the truth comes out. Bottom line is to always remember this. In the book of John the Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery to Jesus trying to discredit him………..what did he say?

“He who is without sin, cast the first stone”. Always remember we have done some things and some folks are still doing things that we would be ashamed of if others found out about. When throwing rocks, make sure you don’t live in a glass house.

I believe that even if a person is knowingly living in sin, he can still know the Truth and proclaim that Truth to others. His words may be the very words that plant a seed, even tho his actions do not. God will send the rain to water the seed. So, yes.

God did send a donkey with a message that was true and meaningfull. God’s truth is just that and what we do can not change it. I think that the holy spirit can work through a person as long as he or she is speaking God’s truth. We are all hiding something be it small or large. In God’s eyes it does not matter they are the same.
