A Minor Inconvenience

Posted by: Sonny   in Abortion, America, Responsibility, Spiritual Warfare

“Okay, I’ll do it,” Susie said determinedly.

“Cool,” her boyfriend Jack exclaimed.  “This may be the last vacation we get to go on for a while or you know that I wouldn’t even ask.”

“I know.  I just wish I had not gone through more than seven months of this.  When we decided to try it you did not even bring this surfing trip up.”

“I’m sorry, baby.  I didn’t think we would have the money.  But that bonus was enough for this and what we will need now too.”

Susie asked, “How long until we get there?”

The couple had been driving for six hours.  They were heading for the beach.  Jack had thought he would have to surf without her.  He hated the idea.  They both loved surfing and had not been able to go for more than two years because of new jobs which had caused them to have to move.  He loved it so much though, and she was the one that wouldn’t give in.

chop-shop“We can get off the next exit and see but I would bet there is probably one of those new chop shops somewhere close”

He was right.  They found the shop within an hour and pulled in the parking lot.  It was pretty full and he just hoped they could get serviced quickly.  They still had about twelve hours of driving ahead of them.  They would probably have to spend the night somewhere.  He had hoped to make it by morning but if Susie could surf with him it was worth it.

They went in and signed in at the counter and picked up a brochure and sat to discuss its contents.  After about twenty minutes their names were called.  They were directed to a small but comfortable room with a bed and a couple of chairs.  Then a tall man in white joined them.

“I am Dr Walters.  What can we do for you today?”

“We want the Drop and Hop procedure.  It is a little expensive but we don’t really want to waste any time.  We’re going to the beach on vacation,” Jack answered.

The doctor smiled and said, “That’s great.  How far along are you?” he asked as he looked at Susie’s belly.

“Seven months and ten days.  It was due on May 4th and we had arranged already to sell it to one of those sterile families but,” she stopped and just smiled sheepishly.

“That’s okay,” the doctor said, smiling back at her.  “A lot of young couples are doing it also.  But there is no sense in letting it ruin a vacation.  We might even be able to bring it out alive still if you chose a different method.”

Jack jumped in, “No, we don’t need the money like we did.  We’ll still go with the Drop and Hop.”  Susie nodded.

Dr Walters smiled at the eager couple and nodded.  “No problem.  We’ll have that fetus out in 30 minutes or less or you get your money back.”  He laughed at his own joke while they joined him even though they were too young to remember the old commercial the doctor referenced.  “All joking aside, this new procedure will allow you to be rid of this minor inconvenience within two hours and you’ll be on your way.”

“Awesome,” Jack said as Susie nodded and smiled.  “Surfs up,” she thought.

This is my sorry attempt at horror fiction.  It is horror because it is probably not that farfetched or too far in the future.  The life of the unborn is already seen as cheap and in many cases an inconvenience.  If we keep on the way we are now on the issue of abortion, don’t be surprised if this little sorry piece of fiction becomes prophetic.

Jason has a post on his blog here where he asks for some practical solutions to this issue.  It is time we took this on as the main issue in our culture and society that we need to address.  No, not address, we need to do something real.  We need to go a lot farther than we are in our attempts to change people’s minds about abortion.  And since I believe Jesus is the only one that can change minds, it has to start with the gospel.  We should be more than barbarians.

Go to Jason’s blog and share your thoughts there as well as here.

Love you all

Thanks Sonny for the blog. I agree that we all need to pull together and really start doing something about the genocide of our day. You did a great job in your story of showing the light-hearted approch to abortion within our culture, and even within our churches.

Blessings!

As a very pregnant women who has experienced being 7 months pregnant three times now I can not see anyone being able to do this….. I can see it coming, chop shops that is. There are women who get furious when they find out they are past the acceptable time limit for having a regular abortion. But then after growing a baby for so many months by 7 months you feel everything the baby does not just the discomforts of it all. I still cant imagine aborting a baby.

Honestly, I am totally against abortion in every way form or fashion however; being a women I also feel that a women should have the right to choose. Being a christian my belief is she should choose to keep her legs together but hey anyway. I know many people wont like this, but we say all the time that in God’s eyes no sin is greater than another and the murder of an unborn child is like a grown man taking a life in a bar fight. Sadly I fill that like in our past that even if abortion were outlawed women would still have them and the regulations and safety of those patients would be compromised. No matter our feelings on the subject I think the need for safe abortion is necessary since it wont stop. I think our best option to reach those women and men who need to know what they are doing is the same mission we have now, reach them with the message of Salvation! We cant stop them if they are determined but we can tell them there is a better way!

People claiming to be christians standing in protest outside of abortion clinics and those who go as far as bombing them are just hurting our cause. We as christians cant convince the lost that we love them and accept them no matter what and that God is the same way if that is our behavior. That doesnt show love.

I would love to go into schools (starting in middle school, since that is the new age to start with the sex and sometimes younger) and speak with all the girls about God’s love and forgiveness and the choice that we all have to stay pure until marriage and that an unborn fetus is a creation of Gods and matters to Him and that even if it was an accident that aborting a baby is not the way. If we could just reach out to our young people and bring them to Christ then maybe we wouldnt have to tell them that abortion is not the answer.

I do agree we need to be more vocal. I think foremost we need to offer the message of Salvation! In love.

Beth,

I agree with a lot of what you said. I think we have hurt our cause by some of our past actions. Jason, on his blog that I provided the link to, is asking for practical, real solutions to this issue. Where I disagree with you, even though I am not a woman, is that women should have a choice. It may be their body, but that child inside you has a body also.

This fictional scene I wrote is where we are headed. It may seem far fetched now but I would dare say that if you were to ask Brother Cobb if he thought when he was 25 that today there would be over forty million babies killed in the name of choice he would say no.

Peter Singer already advocates the murder of babies up to a couple of years old if certain circumstances occur. (I believe I have this right) I do know he places more value on animals rights than the unborn for sure.

We need to be consistent. We need to stand for the unborn in effective ways and not forget about the “born” while we are at it.

If you have any suggestions, please share here but go read and share on Jasons blog also.

Thanks for all the comments so far

Love you all

As a Mother and as a teen who got pregnant. I agree with some of what you are saying. I disagree that a Women has a choice. She made her choice when she decided to go against God and herself in the first place. I was 17 when I had my oldest so I have been there. I do think they need to make it illegal and then maybe women would not be so inclined to use Abortion as birthcontrol. (I have known women to kill as may as three babies) I think they need to bring back the shame of the sin. Women and Men think everything is owed to them and should be on their time. Not true. God blessed me with my children, where would I be if I listened to those around me and murdered them? I agree love should be given, but even Jesus got Angry at the temple and corrected them. Yes, sin is a sin but at what point will it stop. If I decided that I did not want to be a Mother anymore than do I have the right to kill my children? Why? It is the same no matter how you look at it. We see parents doing this on the news and we hurt inside and get angry, but not when a baby is killed, Why?

Older parents can sometimes change plans and be an inconvience are they next?

I have so many thougths flooding through my mind…
We have been touched very closely by abortion, it cost us a grandbaby.

I hate to hear some of the arguments,’ her body’, Well, she should have realized how important her body was to her before she made a baby! How can we change a young girls image of herself in her own eyes when they reject everything moral and good?

‘She is too young’, that was the excuse given to us when the other grandparent forced an abortion on their daughter. She was young, but it was not a medical threat posed to her that was their true motivation, it was the inconvenience or embarassment they may have felt!

One of my (least) favorites is ‘If they have a baby they do not want, then the possiblity of abuse is greater’. I mean, you cannot get more abusive than murder!!

‘It should be her choice’, I agree with Sonny, why does the baby not deserve a choice?

There will always be people that will not uphold the law, they will reject and abuse it; but even if we could show how valuable this little life is and a law was created against the procedures, going so far as to prosecute anyone who attempted to have or perform an abortion, would we be known as protectors of life or as intolerant people who do not try to understand? When did this world get turned inside out? Why do we not succeed in these important issues? Have we given up?
I think that if we could or should start any where, it would be in the home. I know that even girls raised in a “perfect” environment seek abortions, but if we talked to them as individuals, we may find that although they knew their dad loved them, they did not feel an unconditional love. Dads are who the daughters model most of their relationships after.
One more thing, we do not invest in the lives of others. When I was growing up, it did not matter where I was, if there was an adult present, they were my ‘parent’. If I stepped out of line, they put me right back in, then they told my parent and I got it much worse. The community was the support group for the parents. Now if you even look at someone else’s kid in a corrective way, you have made an enemy. Even in church, we have a fear of offending someone if we try to guide their child in any way. We need to find ways for our young people to see us as approachable and safe. Not to take the place of the parent or go against the parent, but in support of parent and the children.

I love to see that we are all talking about the issue. This is a good start to finding an answer to the murder of babies in the world. Beth, I agree that the murder of a baby is just as much sin as killing someone in a bar fight (you go to prison for killing someone in a bar fight).

Even the mentioning of it being a “womans right to choose” makes me want to respond with righteous indignation, but this is not the place for that. I do disagree on this point and believe the child should be protected, both by law and love.

Any woman that has had an abortion can be forgiven just as easy as a drunk or liar. This is not a question of forgivness or whose sin is “bigger”. I think the problem is much of the christians (christian meaning christ-like) have drank the koolaid of this sinful world. Can you imagine Jesus saying, “it’s ok to kill that baby… it’s the womans choice.”? Much of the abortion issue stems from the feminist movement, in which people start equating trying to save a babys life with “oppressing women”.

If I have responded a little strong, I apologize. I don’t want to bomb clinics or shoot abortion doctors. All I want is to see the church taking a more proactive stance on the issue by loving the struggling mothers and even adopting these “unwanted” babies.

Im sorry I didnt mean to say I think a women has a right to choose an abortion, I do believe that the unborn has just as much right to live. I just dont agree that taking away the right will solve the problem.
Sorry,
Beth

Oh I do agree Jason, If the government enforced punishment on those who kill their unborn (like jail time) that might help. But I was thinking more along the lines of what we as Christians can do. We have to deal with the laws that are in place. But what do we do is the question….

Let me start out by saying… I fought 3 doctors (ENT-Gynecologist-Pediatrician) and my husband to save my son’s life from an abortion. From the medical standpoint of “putting my life in danger”, doctors were telling me to abort my son so I could live!

I just had a baby 3 months prior, had a tumor removed from the outer layer of my brain, spent 10 days in a comma! I used precaution against pregnancy but it happened the night I came home from the hospital!

Yes, my body was weak and I feared the worse for my unborn child. I made up my mind that God had a purpose for this pregnancy, and this child and I knew I would have to fight every step of the way!

I was hospitalized during my last 6 weeks of this pregnancy, ran a fever of 104 and my kidneys shut down! The report coming from the doctors was they could save the baby but I might not make it. I told my husband to prepare to raise 4 children because I might die, but I was determined to give this child life!

Do you get the impression I am AGAIST abortion?!!!! I do not believe God meant for us to look at abortion as a choice. To legalized abortion will only say to those seeking one, its okay!

The next time any of you have the pleasure of meeting my son, my miracle baby…Kirk, please take a good look at what the doctors wanted to destroy! I thank God everytime I look at my son for giving my the strength to fight the odds and give him life!

Jonna, my first born grand daughter, was almost an abortion as well. Her mother went to Save-a-life, thinking she was going to an abortion clinic to find out about her options to terminate this pregnancy. Instead she was met with a woman of God who told her about the gift of life in her womb and the blessing God had given her. I praise God everyday for the babies that were given the chance to live! It grieves my heart for those who are destroyed by the works of the enemy!

I found this quote and thought it relevant to this post.

Power is no blessing in itself, except when it is used to protect the innocent.
Jonathan Swift (1667-1745)

Sonny, you never ceased to amaze me with your passion and talent. Good story.

Beth,

I am sorry if it seemed I was coming at you. I get a little passionate about this issue, and I very much agree with you that we need to focus on solutions as the church of Jesus Christ. Again, I didnt mean to appear as though I was coming at you personally. I meant to direct it at the pro-choice camp.

I see now that we are saying the same thing. Don’t depent on legislation, start doing something now about this issue.

Blessings!
