Tuesday Town Hall 40…Godsmack

tues-townhall I know that Godsmack is the name of a heavy metal band but that is not what this discussion is about. I also know that some of you might be wondering where I have been. Let’s just say that life is a little full and quite hectic right now and I will try to post soon about what is going on and I am trying to get a better handle on this busyness so that I can at least write a couple of times a week again. Thanks for hanging in there.

As far as the title goes, I am inteested in knowing what you think and believe about God punishing us. Wondering if He does smack us.

Do you think God punishes today in light of what Jesus showed us concerning His mercy, grace, and love for us?

If you believe He does, what methods do you believe He uses?

What is your justification for your beliefs?

I miss the conversations and hope to not only post some more but I do hope you will comment.

glad your back!!!!! i miss you. yes he does punish us. he does it by letting us have our way. he gave the jews a king, he gave them quails in the desert. still interested in that other question i asked you about but i understand that you are a busy man. love you

You bring up an interesting idea about us getting our way as punishment. You are on to something there. Do you think He does in any other ways?

This goes back to something I said a couple weeks ago. I still believe that we are punished through our own feelings of guilt and our conscience tells us we did wrong, but we did it any way. If we never did wrong would we feel compelled to repent? Therefore God has built in an automatic correction mechanism in us. He doesn’t make us do anything, but he gives us the instructions right in our bodies. We just have to choose to accept it. I wish I did more.

I don’t know if this makes sense, but how else could we know when we have done wrong. It may be subtle to some and overbearing to others, but it is there. God pokes and prods and gives information to us subconsciously that we are to follow or the guilt will overtake us and bring us back to God. If we choose not to listen then any punishment God uses will not really work anyhow as we are in more danger at that point.

I think God still puts the input in, but those who turn away from him choose to ignore the message.

Sorry to ramble, but it has been a while since I last posted.
